How we write our guides: Nest editorial standards

Our guides help you rent, buy and live in Bali without being caught out. This page explains who writes them, how we check them and how to tell us when something is wrong.

Who writes the guides

The guides are published by the Nest team, the people behind Nest Bali. They are written with the help of AI tools:

  • an AI drafts each guide from sources we choose;
  • a separate AI check then opens every source, re-runs every number taken from Nest listings and removes any claim it cannot verify;
  • a person from the Nest team reads the guide and approves it before it is published.

The Nest team decides what is published and is responsible for every guide.

How we check facts

  • Every fact that matters for your money, your safety or your legal position is checked against a source linked at the end of the guide, under "Sources". We prefer official sources, such as Indonesian government websites (for example the immigration office, the police or the national land agency, BPN).
  • Real scam cases come only from published news reports or police statements, and we link them. We never invent cases, people, quotes or numbers.
  • When a guide describes a situation to explain a point, it is labelled "Example" and built from patterns described in the sources.
  • We do not name or accuse specific Facebook groups, agents or people.
  • A claim we cannot check against a source is left out.

Guides about contracts, property ownership, visas or tax give general information, not legal advice. Rules change and your own situation matters: before you sign or pay, check with a licensed notary (PPAT) for property, or with a licensed immigration agent for visas.

Prices and data from Nest listings

Figures marked as Nest data come from the listings that are public on Nest Bali, the same ones anyone can see on the site. We count:

  • only active listings, and a property that several agents list only once;
  • the median price (the middle one), not the average;
  • a figure only when at least 5 listings back it.

Every figure says on which date the data was taken, and guides built on Nest data are refreshed every quarter. These figures describe asking prices on Nest, not the whole Bali market or the price you will finally agree with an owner.

Dates and updates

Every guide shows when it was last updated. We change that date only when the content changes, and we re-check every guide at least once a year.

How to report an error

If you find a mistake, a rule that has changed or a source link that no longer works, email us at support@nest-bali.com with the link to the guide and what is wrong, or use the feedback page. We read every report and correct the guide when it is wrong.

If you think a listing on Nest is a scam, use the report button on the listing, or tell us on the safety page. If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.
